Weekly Top
10 Speed Horses
Top 10
Speed Ratings from Sunday 18th April to Saturday 24th April Inclusive
The aim of
this column is to point out horses that may be worth following in the coming
weeks by listing the top 10 horses that have produced the best ratings in
the last week.
There are four lists: one for Flat
Turf, one for Flat A/W, one for Chases and one for Hurdles.
If a speed rating is in bold then the horse in question
has achieved a rating that is better than the median average for the class
of race it contested. It is probable that such horses will stay in the same
class and will therefore be worth following. If the horse runs in a higher
class race next time out then, if the rating is also better than median
average for that class, it would also be worth following.
More information about the median average ratings for
class can be found in the Proform software product, in the Class Ratings
window, which lists the LOW and HIGH limits for the class as well as MEDIAN
and AVERAGE ratings for class. This enables you to compare the rating of
your selected horse with the standards for the class at which it is running
today.
Eight of these produced better than class ratings. This week I will be
just concentrating on what I believe are the best prospects from the top 10
in each section. Hurricane Alan won this after not winning for a
year, looking at his record shows me that he really needs some cut in the
ground, which he as not really had for a long time so given these conditions
he can go well again. Raymond's Pride could win a few races this
season after producing two progressive ratings, cut in the ground is the key
though and without that he won’t produce his best. Zilch needs real
cut in the ground, i.e. Heavy going, his last 4 runs have all been on very
soft or heavy ground and he has produced two wins and two seconds, give the
right conditions he can score again.

All 10 of these produced better than class ratings. Red Forest
progressed from a 3rd after a lengthy layoff to win this with
plenty to spare and a good speed rating for the all weather. Bosphorus
produced a big enough speed figure in this banded race to suggest he can
step up in grade. Montosari looks above banded races and since
winning this the 3rd Bosphorus has gone on to score with a good
figure. Baytown Flyer deserves a mention after winning 4 races in
eight days and coming second in one of them, all were banded races, 5 on the
AW and one on turf, well placed by connections.

Eight of these produced better than class ratings. Cenkos was the
class act in this race and so it proved at a very decent 9/2, most of the
field ran well and the pace was strong, the one to take out of the race is
the novice Duke Of Buckingham who ran a blinder in 4th.
Mondial Jack looks a quirky type but this was his best rating so far and
this McCoy’s 4 win on him from 4 rides. Puntal has been on and off
the monthly and weekly lists for 2 years now, he his a frustrating sort but
classy on his day. Ballyvaddy looks the right sort to run up a
sequence.

All ten produced better than class ratings. Korelo is another
frustrating Martin Pipe horse who when is on song is classy. Society Buck
won this with a decent enough figure and could rattle up a sequence if
kept to novice events. Cristophe has shown two progressive ratings
recently and may not be stopping just yet. Monet's Garden looks
progressive after a 2nd to a decent Paul Nicholls sort in Garde
Champetre and then a win last time out with a better speed figure. Hasty
Prince has been running well all season in all the top class races and
thoroughly deserves this success.
