You will often see
comments in the racing press to the effect that certain tracks are
good for front runners. That is only true to a certain extent, and
we need to take it a stage further than that if we are to be truly
accurate.
Because of the layout of
the various tracks, specific distances at certain tracks are
conducive to front running tactics - rather than the track as a
whole.
Here in tabulated form
is a list of the different distances on all flat tracks in the UK,
together with the percentage winning strike rate of front runners. A
front runner for this purpose is defined as a horse that made all or
most of the running.
Distances that have not
had a sufficient number of races run over them to produce a
meaningful statistic are not shown.
